The nation’s midsection is in the midst of a blizzard bringing the lives of over 60 million people to a standstill.  While the heartland of America attempts to dig itself out, we have captured rare footage of ‘thundersnow.’

Thundersnow is basically what it sounds like, lightning and thunder in the midst of a snowstorm. Somewhere between ominious and eerie, residents of the area may have heard the thunder summoning the initial snowfall that is expected to exceed over two feet of cover before the blizzard ends.

A state of emergency has been declared for many of the affected states, with officials warning citizens to stay inside and not drive unless their jobs or necessity for being outside is well-warranted.
