Watch: Deflated Lungs Expand Like Balloon When Filled with Air

[adsense]The lungs above are from a cat.  In just an instant, we can see the expansive power of mammalian lungs, a key evolutionary feature that allows us latitude for traveling, hunting, fleeing and so forth.

As the lungs expand, the color goes from a deep red (from the iron rich heme portion of hemoglobin) to a rich pink.  Tiny sacs called alveoli facilitate the transfer of oxygen to the blood, which then goes on to power Kreb’s cycle and effectively, give you the energy you need to think, eat, breathe and essentially be alive.
