United Airlines Ending Flights From Topeka Airport September 2nd, 2014
Topeka, KS (WIBW) – United Airlines announced it is ending its services at Topeka Regional Airport. United Airlines will stop flights from Topeka Regional Airport to any other airport on September 2nd, 2014.
United Airlines cited two factors in its decision to leave Topeka: failure to meet revenue expectations and failure to meet passenger forecasts.
Nationally, most United Airlines Chicago-bound flights have seats filled 86%. Topeka passengers only filled flights out of Topeka to Chicago at a 46% average. This lower than average number meant lower revenue and passenger forecasts for United, which apparently resulted in the decision to nix all service to Topeka. In an official statement, United also mentioned poor weather in Topeka and Chicago contributed to a high number of delays and cancellations.
